This conference features information and discussions about six model Indian health care programs. These programs, identified during the Training Our Providers in Cultural Sensitivity (TOPICS) Project, are successfully teaching their health care providers about the culture and history of the people they serve.
Speakers at the conference have been at the forefront of developing cultural competency in Indian health care programs.
This conference allowed for networking with conference speakers and foundation representatives.
The conference also premiered Creating Space, a film about six American Indian and Alaska Native programs that provide training in culture and history to their health care providers.
Representatives from the six model programs in the TOPICS (Training Our Providers in Cultural Sensitivity) project discussed what "Creating Space for Culture and History" means in the context of Indian health care.
