The TOPICS Project

The Training Our Providers in Cultural Sensitivity (TOPICS) Project documents how six American Indian and Alaska Native programs provide training in culture and history to their health care providers.

TOPICS has produced:

• Creating Space for Culture and History in Indian Health Care, a sharing and networking conference July 26, 2006.
• Strategies for Cultural Competency in Indian Health Care, a book by Mim Dixon and Pamela E. Iron, published by the American Public Health Association, 2006.
• Creating Space, a 30-minute documentary by Nathan H. Young IV about the health care programs, places and people in during the TOPICS Project.
• This Web site, with a sample of the many interviews.

The TOPICS project is funded by The California Endowment and sponsored by the National Indian Women’s Health Resource Center (NIWHRC).
